Master the Media: How Teaching Media Literacy Can Save Our Plugged-in World

by: Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc.

Product rating: 4.9 with 8 reviews

Can teaching media literacy really change the world? Researchers predict that, in 2015, the average American will spend more than fifteen hours every day listening, reading, clicking, and viewing media. Without question, television, films, radio, and music, the Internet, social media, news programs, and books and magazines are part of our daily lives.
And while some claim that all of this media consumption is detrimental to society, the truth is it doesn’t have to be. Times have changed. Technology connects us today in new and exciting ways. We have more choices and more control than ever, regarding what and when we will watch, listen to, and read. And, as Julie Smith explains in Master the Media: How Teaching Media Literacy Can Save Our Plugged-in World, with that control comes a heightened level of responsibility to think critically about the content we consume.
Written to help teachers and parents educate the next generation, Master the Media explains the history, purpose, and messages behind the media. The point isn’t to get kids to unplug; it’s to help them make informed choices, understand the difference between truth and lies, and discern perception from reality. Critical thinking leads to smarter decisions-and it’s why media literacy can save the world.

But it’s Clara’s secret prayer room, with its walls covered in requests and answers, that has Elizabeth most intrigued . . . even if she’s not ready to take Clara’s suggestion that she create a prayer room of her own. As tensions at home escalate, though, Elizabeth begins to realize that her family is worth fighting for, and she can’t win this battle on her own. Stepping out in blind faith, putting her prayers for her family and their future in God’s hands, might be her only chance at regaining the life she was meant for.

“As your desire is, so is your will.

As your will is, so is your deed.

As your deed is, so is your destiny.”

The Upanishads

The words printed on the back of the business card sent a chill through Lenea’s body, causing her to question what it is she desires most in life: a partner. But how could this be her destiny when she doesn’t trust men? The answer awaits in an erotically mysterious dance studio, where a broken-hearted yet hopeful Lenea joins a group of like-minded women who are taught that any desire they have can be realized through dance lessons, an intriguing objective.

Things start to go awry when Lenea discovers the studio is haunted by a spirit of the past-when the building once served as a brothel in the late 1800’s. She grasps for a hold on reality as she seeks to understand the connection between the supernatural occurrences and her growing relationship with an incredibly hot, talented artist who seems to have caught the eye of more than just Lenea.

Ultimately the navigation through her rock-strewn journey leads to her own sexual awakening, and the truth about the one thing she believes matters most in a partnership: trust.

The Miracle Morning for Salespeople: The Fastest Way to Take Your SELF and Your SALES to the Next Level (The Miracle Morning Book Series) (Volume 3)

by: Hal Elrod International, Inc.

Product rating: 5.0 with 42 reviews

There are countless books written for salespeople about various sales techniques: prospecting, generating leads, building rapport, handling objections, closing the sale, collecting referrals, and providing excellent customer service. The list goes on and on. This is not one of those books. Most salespeople use these techniques daily, yet the majority still fail to achieve the results they want. So, what is the difference between “average” performers and the top 1% in your company or industry? Which strategies, mindsets, rituals, practices and systems do the top 1% maintain daily that got them to the top and continues to keep them there? The more you study the world’s top salespeople, in any industry, the more you realize that their success is a result of who they are more than merely what they do. Thus, logic would have it that if you want to take your SALES to the next level, you must first figure out how to take your SELF to the next level (because it only happens in that order). That’s exactly what this book will help you do, and faster than you ever realized is possible.

Sycamore Book
Book Title:

Sycamore

by: Page Publishing, Inc.

Product rating: 5.0 with 1 reviews

For two years, Jim and Fannie Norris had tried without much success to farm on New Mexico’s Gila River. During the second year, when they could see that things were not going well, they made a decision to move to Sycamore where Jim had a homestead. There were far more people against the young couple’s move to Sycamore than there were in favor of it. The naysayers had their points: There was no road up those six miles of extremely rocky creek bed. There was no garden, nor even a good place to put one. A well would have to be dug, and the water piped up to the garden area. The only dwelling was the little one-room homestead shack that Jim had built in 1916 on a rocky hill, and they had no money to buy material to make it larger. The nearest neighbor was eight miles away; there would be no easy way to get help in case of serious illness or accident. And a new baby was due in August. But Jim and Fannie remained firm and determined in their decision, and a lot of learning and growth took place on this road to the Sycamore they created.

Supermarket Diaries

by: Thompson & Columbus, Inc.

Product rating: 5.0 with 1 reviews

For more than a decade, I have been a supermarket cashier, seeing customers for five minutes at a time as they pass through my line. At best, they are polite to me; at worst, they look right through me or take out their frustrations on me. And, in return, I have lost faith in humanity, and compassion for them. I wrote these poems to try to regain that compassion ― to find a way to think about them as individuals with troubles of their own. “Mild-mannered grocery store employee by day, Nina Robins is a well-known performance poet who has twice performed at the National Poetry Slam. Her poetry has been described as ‘exceptionally appealing,’ ‘heartbreakingly honest,’ and ‘subversively deep for work so overtly entertaining.’ – Taylor Mali, author of “What Teachers Make”

What Pisses Me Off About The Good Ol' USA Book
Book Title:

What Pisses Me Off About The Good Ol’ USA

by: Page Publishing, Inc.

Product rating: 5.0 with 1 reviews

What Pisses Me Off About The Good Ol’ USA is a topical review of current affairs and national issues that represents the views of most Americans. This book represents those Americans who do not have the ability to speak out or who are afraid to speak out due to political correctness. This book dives into many issues that have destroyed the fabric of our society that our fore fathers fought so hard to provide for future generations under the US Constitution and the Bill Of Rights. The title reflects what is wrong with our society and country and tells it in a straight-forward manner. Brian Curtis discusses issues affecting our national security, our financial well-being, our moral and ethical compass, our faith, our misguided political behavior, equality, unlawful behavior, and lastly our inability to reduce the size of government that has turned our country into a nanny state and a co-dependent country. This title reflects years of frustration over the inability of our countrymen to rise up and put a stop to political correctness forever. This book reveals the frustrations, the bold-face lies and deceit, and the weakness of our countrymen to stand up and correct the direction this country is heading. This topical review clearly brings many issues to the forefront that need to be discussed, analyzed, broken down and corrected to save ourselves from the juggernaut of a society that is lost, confused, and misguided. This book is a wake up call to step up to the plate, swing the bat, and run the bases full speed with no interference. Read on my friends and enjoy the ride.

Kale and Coffee: A Renegade’s Guide to Health, Happiness, and Longevity

Product rating: 4.6 with 15 reviews

“Four years ago, when I was something of a YouTube health celebrity, I was on top of the world [and] . . . the diet pyramid. I ate the cleanest, most nutritious diet on the planet (or so I thought). A raw-food vegan diet . . .  not only pure in its contents but also pure in its intention. With this type of diet, you eat straight from the earth, only as nature intended. I ate kale salad, raw nut butters, goji berries, raw chocolate, and dehydrated flax crackers. I drank green smoothies, green juice, wheatgrass, and hemp milk. I even tried a fruitarian diet . . . I thought about food from the moment I woke up until the second I fell asleep . . . I was an addict in search of the purest dope: raw, vegan, organic food . . . I was headed down a path of self-destruction. So it’s not surprising that, like any hardcore addict, I eventually hit rock bottom.”

So begins the saga of health blogger Kevin Gianni and his wife, Annmarie, as they travel the world to learn as much as they can about health and nutrition.  Along the way they meet unlikely people in unlikely places as Kevin seeks an answer to his burning question:  What—and how much—should we eat?

Gianni’s lighthearted debunking of the hype and nonsense surrounding much of the health and nutrition world today should be encouraging to anyone who’s ever tried a fad diet and failed. Kale and Coffee is packed with research—delivered in Gianni’s warm and humorous voice—but the aim throughout is to empower you to create the diet and lifestyle best suited to you alone.

Kale and Coffeeoffers practical tips for wellness, from testing your body—and pantry—for toxic metals to selecting the healthiest coffee, wines, and green drinks to consume. And don’t miss the Kale and Coffee 21-Day Jumpstart to launch you on your own journey of transformation.
